"Painted Road, Hainted Heart : New Work, Old Florida."
Featuring stories and places growing up in Florida as a 9th generation Floridian. RhondaK's work is pervasive in Southwest Florida in homes, bars, restaurants and even humble fences.
While she's sold in a dozen stores and galleries, she most frequently seen selling at beach side street markets. The display is always different, with new stories, ideas, colors and moods. It's a moving feast of what it is to fight with the past (Walk a Mile in my Flip Flops...and bring me back a beer), honor a history ( Free Beer..tomorrow)...and hold on to meaning. ( The Sea Called my name and I answered with all my heart.)
The loss of her father and tiki carving muse are a constant in her work, thus the idea of "hainted heart." A lost soul walking, restless...and painting. Her father was a Florida road worker that paved many Florida roads. For her the road trip has always been a gift of tenacity, love and faith.
RhondaK is also an academic Librarian working in a Sarasota County college.
Bradenton Village of the Arts at the Divine Excess Folk Art Gallery. February 7, 6-9 and 8, 11-4.
