Stories behind some of my original work RhondaK....

Some stories behind my original work "Live with Egrets not Regrets" and "Walk a Mile in my Flip Flops..and Bring me back a beer.".....and MORE.

I have a lot of people telling me about work they've seen I should do they've seen sell well.  I usually smile weakly and say nothing.

That's not what I'm working on. That's not what I'm painting from.

RhondaK recommends Star Fish Co. restaurant

Star Fish Company
Cortez Florida

Widely covered by many magazines like Florida Leisure, Edible Sarasota and more.

I like the shrimp ANY WAY.   This is a real locals joint that maintains it's Old Florida style no matter how people tell them how they should do it "right."

From cheese grits to fried oysters -- to a dock full of matter of sailing vessel -- Karen Bell of Star Fish Company does it right.

Much of my original work began on this dock. It is a top re-musing zone.

The shore is not sure

This year is deeply rooted in this idea:

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” -Andre Gide

I have been running, promoting and doing shows now at about 40 or so a clip for 5 or more years.
Last year, I meant to cut that to 15. This year, I'm going to have the courage to cut it to zero.

One of my happiest moments last year was setting up my easel and doing a series of paintings of a place I have longed loved. I do not know that I will ever sell them.

I do know, that I still feel that day like the most electric and passionate in my life where so much of me was engaged in story, myth, joy and even fear.

And that's the place I want to live: recognition. And a profound opportunity to share the wonder of a sense of simple, old fashioned ...yes.

Besides, stepping back gives me a world where I can step it up and get a Jeep.

Often all you really need is the wind in you hair and no place to be.

Finishing this mermaid this week

As soon as I'm steady on my feet.

I hope the wobbly sidestep I just did walking the dog was inconsequential. It was a bad side step I did 4 months ago that got me here.

Gallery Pieces in Process

I'm slowing down my shows and other work to focus on large show and commercial pieces.  That's a big act of faith really, but with my knee injury, it is clear I'm at the end of doing things the same way longing for a different result.  In fact, I have a huge learning curve that may well take me the rest of my life.

I can be scared of that or paint harder.

I'm going with paint brushes UP!!

These are the starter pieces for my planned gallery show in Feb. 2014.   As you'll note, they have a lot to do with places and themes that mean something to me.

So even if this move fails me, it is me. And that's OK.  My work always finds its people and place.
